Osama bin Laden was the FBI’s most wanted man from 1999 until his death in 2011. The killing of Osama bin Laden by American forces in a compound located just 800 yards from the Pakistan Military Academy near Abbottabad ended one of the most famous man hunts in American history. If he were alive today, his net worth would be $54,250,000.
The main issues surrounding his death are the questions about whether the U.S. raid was a violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty; as well the disposal of his body by burial at sea by the Special Forces Unit before returning to the U.S. after the mission was accomplished. At the time of his death, he had three wives and eight children, and one of his children is reported to have been killed in the raid.
Some international analysts believe Pakistani security forces were taken unawares as the team flew in from Afghanistan landing in Abbottabad. Others think that the unexplained flurry of visits to Pakistan a month before the raid by several top American military officials including the Joint Chiefs of Staff Admiral Mike Mullen point to an assumption that Pakistan officials were included in the joint operation.
Osama bin Laden was born in Saudi Arabia of wealthy parents as a member of Yemini Kindite sect where he grew up and attended university. He is notoriously the founder of the jihadist organization Al Qaeda responsible for the 9-11 attacks on the Twin Towers in New York City that killed 2,985 Americans. He was considered a terrorist and enemy of the United States.
Since the attacks in September of 2001, bin Laden has managed to escape detection by an elaborate network of hideouts and constantly moving – sometimes numerous times during one day. His capture and killing has stirred an international pot of emotion as some believe him to represent a champion against imperialism and others believe he represented the edge of evil. In either case, Osama can't spend a penny more.
