You may think that Elon Musk knows how to juggle. Mostly because this South African born entrepreneur and engineer continues to have many balls or enterprises going on all at the same time. It may be why he's a brand newly minted billionaire with a net worth of $896,053,900. The co-founder of PayPal now holds the CEO reins of SpaceX and Telsa Motors. In addition, Musk chairs another company called SolarCity.
Musk's 29% in his electric car company, Tesla Motors, just saw a large increase in its stock price this year.Tesla stock rose after the February 2012 unveiling of the Model X, which will go into production in 2013. Musk's stake there may add up to just over $1 billion, according to some estimates.
Musk also owns a quarter of a company called SolarCity. SolarCity designs, finances and installs solar panels and systems. With his cousin, Lyndon Rive, running the show, SolarCity is expected to file an S-1 in the near future with an intent to go public. With Goldman Sacks as its underwriter, initial estimates peg the company's worth close to $1.5 billion.
In his spare time, he monitors his 66% interest in SpaceX. This entity focuses on building reusable rockets. The company has already acquired billions of dollars worth of government and commercial contracts for dozens of launches through the year 2017. Musk has already intonated his intent to bring this company at a public offering – rumored to be in 2013.
The whiz kid with computers made his first fortune as a co-founder of PayPal. With co-founder Peter Thiel, the online payments system was sold to eBay in 2002 for $1.5 billion.
