Jump To Jimmie Johnson's Stats
Even before Jimmie Johnson has gotten to the 40-year-old mark, he owns a sprint car dynasty that mimics the New York Yankees. Johnson has five consecutive NASCAR Sprint Car Championship and keeps that edge as his competitors seethe. A California kid, Johnson can't be described as one of the good ole boys of the South. He describes himself as more of a desert rat growing up learning to surf and ride the dunes in Southern California out of El Cajon.
His racing passion developed riding motocross at the early age of five. As he accumulated flag after flag, he had one year where he won almost everything in sight before breaking his knee in a crash just before the end of the season. With so many points, in the last race of the season all he had to do was do one lap and win the title on points – he did it with a cast on the leg.
That burning desire to edge everyone else out on the track continues to this day. From 2006 through 2010, the executive committee of NASCAR didn't have to change the name on the NASCAR Sprint Cup Championship trophy - and Johnson kept it in the same spot in the trophy case. In an unprecedented occurrence, Johnson earned the coveted title five consecutive times as everyone and their brother threw their best wrench at the California kid. Overall since his start in Sprint car racing in 2002, Johnson has earned 55 wins and 231 top tens.
Jimmie and his wife Chandra run The Jimmie Johnson Foundation, which they founded in 2006. With a general mission to help children and families in need, the Foundation has opened a bowling alley in North Carolina that provided jobs and activity for the less fortunate. The Foundation also supports Habitat for Humanity and the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Every year, Johnson host a celebrity golf tournament in San Diego that raises money for both.
