Most folks recognize Katherine Heigl as Issie Stevens, the blond bombshell doctor on the the hit television series Grey's Anatomy. But Heigl has been twisting photo lens ever since she was nine years old. In addition, she already had an extensive film career underway before she got cast as one of Seattle's finest surgeons.
She got an early start when her aunt got her involved with modeling. As the relative was promoting her wares, Heigl stood in as a friendly model and was discovered by the famed Wilhelmina Modeling Agency. She appeared in catalogs and eventually did a national television advertisement for Cheerios. The assignments continued during her high school days and were even complicated as she began to appear in short television roles. During this time her passion switched from modeling to acting.
A move to Hollywood as her career picked up came in the early part of 2000 and the photogs from Maxim and FHM were quick to get her featured. With her name and face out there movie jobs kept piling up. She appeared in Roswell, Ground Zero and Valentine as her stock continued to grow.
Her big break came in 2005 when she was cast as Izzie. The show hit the jackpot in ratings with a growing faithful audience. It gave her room in the off season to add to her movie credits. She played an inadvertent love interest opposite Seth Rogen in a box office smash called Knocked Up. Unfortunately, she caught some flack for some of her comments post production. Heigl called the comedy a little sexist and the critics took her to task.
Since 2010, Heigl has concentrated on her movie career and charity work. Her films include Escape, the Ugly Truth opposite Gerald Butler and Life as We Know It. She works with her mother attempting to rescue large dogs with behavioral problems.
