Even though the Emmy voters have singled her out of all the cast member on 'Friends' by never nominating her for one of they Golden trophies, her portrayal of Monica Geller on the long running series helped balance the whimsical characters played by Jennifer Aniston and the kooky character played by Lisa Kudrow as Phoebe.
Cox' portrayed in the three Scream franchise movies gave returning fans a look at her as a Gale Weathers, a bitchy domineering reporter that may have deserved her demise. Nowadays, Cox appears as a sultry 40 something Cougar on a similarly named popular ABC sitcom aimed at making fun of aging beauty queens.
The Alabama native started life as a pampered southern belle before pursuing a modeling career in New York. Cox first managed to land a prominent role in a Bruce Springsteen video and then in a hit movie opposite Jim Carrey in Ace Ventura: Pet Detective. But, her big splash came as a cast member of the television sitcom Friends. Originally, the production company wanted her to fill the role of Rachael Green. The pair separated in 2010, but maintain close ties through their daughter, Coco, and a production company called Coquette.
