With more than 60 movies under his belt, and a Broadway career to account for his characters, Kevin Bacon even has a trivia board game named after him. Called the Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon, factoids about his metamorphosis as an actor and the resultant comedy or dramatic roles he has played make for interesting point-making. Since 1978 and his debut role in the comedy classic Animal House with John Belushi, Bacon as tallied more than 65 screen roles that stretch the imagination.
He appeared as the new guy coming to rural America in the box office dance smash Footloose. He played Jack Burrel in the original 1980 Friday the 13th horror movie. He portrayed Taxi Racer in the John Candy and Steve Martin movie Planes, Trains and Automobiles. Don't forget his stellar performance as Valentine McKee in Tremors or his 1990 performance as a medical student testing the bounds of life and death in Flatliners. One of his most recognized roles was that of Tom Cruise's adversary in A Few Good Men that featured Jack Nickelson and Demi Moore.
The list goes on and on for movies, but he has also appeared in a number of television shows. Early in his career, he worked on two different soap operas to pay the light bills. He appeared on Search for Tomorrow and The Guiding Light.
His career did lead him to meet his wife Kyra Sedwick. Sedwick, as star of the popular television series The Closer, worked together with Bacon who directed more than five episodes of the series that ran for seven years. Bacon's latest movie efforts include Crazy, Stupid Love and a movie due out in 2013 called R.I.P.D.
