Jump To Kelly Clarkson's Stats
Not only does Kelly Clarkson represent the American Idol as its inaugural winner, she takes the cake when it comes to selling the most albums than any of the other annual Idol winners have during their careers. Since her breakout performances on the initial American Idol 2002 competition, she has averaged more than two millions records sold a year to eager buyers. That's more than 21 million of them.
Her accolades have piled up along the way. She has had so many awards that architects have been arguing how to add on shelves to her trophy room. Clarkson owns two Grammys so far and three MTV Awards. Billboard magazine has transferred the rights to 12 of their Awards to Texas native. The folks at the American Music Award piled on four more statuettes and she owns one World Music Award.
Steven Spielberg has a huge effect on how Clarkson became the mammoth singer she is today. Before music took over her life, Kelly dreamed of becoming a marine biologist. Then she saw the movie Jaws. Change of avocations.
Cynthia Glenn should get the real credit for Clarkson's inevitable arrival as the singer she has become. During Clarkson's seventh grade year, Glenn heard Kelly in the hallway singing and convinced the preteen to audition for the school choir. That's all the prompting Clarkson needed.
Through junior high and high school, Clarkson's voice became the standard in Texas. She was offered full college rides from two prestigious music schools, but turned them down. She wanted to concentrate on her writing and singing development.
Now recording under the RCA label, Clarkson has developed a strong working relationship with Reba McIntyre. Her range includes country, jazz, R&B and snythpop. Clarkson's five albums include Thankful, Breakaway, My December, All I Ever Wanted and Stronger.
