Professional basketball player Derrick Martell Rose was born on October 4, 1988 and currently plays for the Chicago Bulls. Derrick Rose was the first guard to be drafted in the NBA since Allen Iverson in 1996. His career awarded him NBA Rookie of the Year. He was also the youngest player to ever win this award, being only 22 when he received this award.
Derrick Martell Rose grew up in Englewood, one of the most impoverished areas in South Chicago. Rose grew up with three older brothers, Dwayne, Reggie and Allan. Derrick Rose wasn’t the only one who had a talent for basketball, since his older brothers all ended up with a basketball career.
Rose was able to attend college due to a scholarship for the University of Memphis. He was recruited by the Tigers after a brilliant AAU game. However, the University of Memphis wasn’t the only one interested in Derrick Rose. The University of Indiana and Illinois also wanted Derrick Rose in their own programs. Derrick Rose eventually chose the University of Memphis due to its history with the NBA.
Derrick Rose started his NBA career with the Chicago Bulls and his career can certainly be called remarkable at least. Rose was the first of the Chicago Bulls to score 10 points or more in his first game. The only person that was able to do this in the past was Michael Jordan, a true basketball legend in his own right.
Rose also received countless awards since the start of his NBA career, including but not limited to: NBA Most Valuable Player (2011), NBA All-Star Selection (2010, 2011, 2012), All NBA First Team (2011), NBA Rookie of the Year (2009), NBA All Rookie First Team (2009), Conference Rookie of the Month (November, December, March), Conference Player of the Week Selections. One thing is certain; we haven’t heard the last of Derrick Rose yet.
