Cory Monteith was a Canadian actor who was mainly known for his role as Finn in the hit series Glee. Monteith had a very successful career ahead of him, but struggled with substance abuse for many years. His problems started from the age of twelve and he left school after a series of problems at the age of sixteen. At the age of nineteen, he went to rehab after an intervention by his family. Unfortunately, the substance abuse continued afterwards and Cory Monteith was found dead on July, 13 2013 in a Vancouver hotel room. He died from a lethal combination of heroin and alcohol.
Monteith had a very troublesome life from a fairly young age, although his background could somewhat explain the life he chose. Cory was born in Calgary, Alberta on May 11, 1982. He was born as the youngest son of Ann McGregor and Joe Monteith. His parents divorced when he was only seven years old and both Cory and his brother Shaun were raised by their mother in Victoria, British Columbia. Cory’s father was hardly around, since he was a military man who often left on assignments.
Cory had problems with alcohol and marijuana at school, leading him to attend sixteen different schools and alternative programs for troubled teens. Monteith left school at the age of sixteen and turned to stealing money to fund his dependency on alcohol and drugs. After a long struggle with substance abuse Cory landed himself roles in Final Destination 3, Deck the Halls, Kyle XY and Glee.
Unfortunately, this talented young man eventually lost the battle with the substances he had been fighting for years. Through his emotional struggles, he did find some happiness with fellow glee star Lea Michelle, staying together until his untimely death in 2013.
