Jean-Claude Van Damme makes a living as an actor and is best known for his martial arts films. His most successful films and career makers are Street Fighter, The Expendables 2 and Kickboxer.
Even though Van Damme lives in the United States, he was originally born in Belgium on October 18, 1960. He started to get interested in martial arts at the age of ten, since his father had a karate and kickboxing school. Eight years later, Van Damme got his black belt and started weight lifting to improve his appearance.
Van Damme’s film career started when he moved to the United States in 1982. He and his childhood friend both got casted as an extra in the film Breakin’, little did he know that this would be the start of a very successful career.
Unfortunately, Jean-Claude Van Damme also experienced quite some controversy in his career. In 1997, Frank Dux filed a lawsuit of 50.000 dollars for lying about his martial arts record. Van Damme was also under fire for attending the 35th birthday of Ramzan Kadyrov.
Jean-Claude Van Damme also struggled with substance abuse caused by his stressful lifestyle. He developed a cocaine habit, which caused him to spend 10.000 a week. He was also arrested for driving under influence and was diagnosed with a bipolar disorder.
His personal life was also quite controversial, since he was married five times to four different women. Next to his marriages, he also had multiple affairs, which caused his reputation to go down the drain. Jean-Claude Van Damme also has three children, one being born out of wedlock.
Even though Jean-Claude is quite talented, it seems like some of his life choices have affected his public image and could cost him dearly financially.
