People who do not know Michelle Obama, have probably been living under a rock for the past decade. Although Michelle is mainly known as the wife of current American President Barack Obama, she is also a lawyer and writer.
Michelle Obama was born on January 17, 1964 in Chicago Illinois. She came from a pretty humble background, her father was an employee for the city water plant and her mother was a secretary. Michelle followed in her brothers footsteps and decided to go to Princeton University. Attending the university was originally shocking to her, given the fact that some of her fellow students were driving BMWs, something Michelle was not used to.
Michelle met her husband Barack in Sidley Austin, a lawyer firm, where they were both working. She was assigned to mentor him as a summer associate, but their casual business relationship soon turned into more. The couple eventually married in 1992 and have two daughters together, Malia Ann and Natasha.
Even though they seem like the perfect couple on the outside, they did have their share of problems. The majority of them was caused by their ambition. Both found it difficult to combine their careers with their personal lives.
A career in politics also seemed difficult to combine with a family, so that caused its fair share of problems as well. The couple may still lead an extremely busy lifestyle, their relationship is as strong as it ever was.
Michelle Obama was raised as a Methodist, but converted to Christianity. Even though she married in a Methodist church, the Trinity United Church of Christ, the couple withdrew their membership in 2008 due to strained relationships with the church and a conflicting views.
Conclusion? Michelle Obama may only be the first lady of the United States for some, but nobody can deny that Michelle contributed immensely towards her husband becoming the president of the United States.
