Johnny Depp has never fit the ordinary mold as a Hollywood leading man. Although dashing, he increasingly chooses parts that seem a bit off kilter. From his early movie days as Edward Scissorhands to his recent embodiment of Captain Jack Sparrow, you won't see Depp portraying a pinstriped New York business consultant wrestling with his marital woes.
His initial success on television as part of the cast of 21 Jump Street has already made the nostalgic turnaround as a recent movie that has revived the same moniker. But for Depp, his short foray as a garage band member and then teenage heart throb in 21 got thrown out the window when his then wife introduced him to Nicolas Cage, who convinced Depp that he had the stones for movies.
Depp has closely aligned his movie career with director Tim Burton. Burton, considered quirky himself, has always been able to showcase Depp in his esoteric fantasies that he puts to film. The pair have worked together on seven films. Burton's adaptations of Sleepy Hollow, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Alice in Wonderland attest to the pairs ability to produce commercially sound and fantastic productions.
Beside great acting gigs, Depp has collected shelves of awards, nominations and trophies along the way. He owns Golden Globes, People's Choice and other awards. He also has garnered a sex symbol status in American cinema, being twice named as the Sexiest man alive by People magazine in 2003 and again in 2009.
Depp has other passions beside the cinema. He and his wife grows grapes and have wine making facilities in their vineyard in Plan-de-la-Tour north of Saint-Tropez, France. When Johnny is not making money from the movies or his vineyard, he must be counting and recounting that huge nest egg. His net worth doesn't seem to mind.
